Baby Pangolin

Pangolins have been having a bad press recently but this little chap wasn’t suspected of causing any pandemic.

In fact, he was an orphan, his mother killed by hunters, and he was being cared for at the Africa Inland Mission at Oicha, just north of Beni in eastern Congo (Zaire as it was then).

I’d left my passengers there for a week after breaking a layshaft in the Land Rover gearbox. So, took out the gearbox, hired the mission station’s 4x4 and drove 500kms with it to Kampala in Uganda to effect repairs.

My passengers, mainly nurses, had a fascinating time - hands on working in the mission’s pharmacy and leprosarium. But I digress . . .
